I have a trunk.
A very old trunk.
It was my great grandfather's and I'm sure it has some stories to tell.
My story is: where I put it so it doesn't look like a trunk that's lost its way. In The Brick House it was a coffee table of sorts, against a wall. In our current house, it's shoved against the wall in the kitchen area and houses bags (which is useful) and tends to get the dog lead, newspapers and keys dumped on top (the fruit bowl above was my doing for the purposes of the photo. It doesn't look too bad but couldn't stay with a puppy in the house!).
I would like it to one day take centre stage and have its own moment of glory. Like the one in this room (image via Automatism). What do you think? Any good suggestions?
Yes I had a trunk for years as a coffee table. It looked great. And how wonderful that it is a family heirloom. Maybe put a glass top on it to protect it from any spills.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous old trunk! If you don't want to use it as a coffee table, what about at the end of a bed? That way it can do double duty - hold all of your throws/blankets etc, and you can sit on it to put on your shoes. Good luck - I'm sure you will have lots of wonderful suggestions coming your way. ReplyDeleteYes, a glass top is a great idea, Julie-Ann, as it doesn't have a flat surface so not ideal for wine glasses! And I could put it at the end of the bed in our new house, as our temporary bedroom isn't long enough. Thanks for the help!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous - just my thing... end of the bed is good or as a bedside table in a kid's room - great storage then too...
ReplyDeleteIt's lovely, Jane. I think they look good as end-of-bed chests, or in hallways or even as oversized bedside tables.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous old chest! I like them as coffee tables but I just have mine tucked into a little spot in the lounge - at the moment with an orchid on top which looks nice.
ReplyDeleteFor sure it would look amazing as end of bed chest...I have one like that and it really looks great! Kisses darling and have a wonderful Thursday:)
ReplyDeleteMuah and see you soon:)
Lucky you having such a gorgeous piece :) Can't wait to see what you do!
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of trunks for furniture...You could try and find another one and stack them with a big plank of wood on top for a hall table...add a lamp and some flowers....
ReplyDeleteIts gorgeous.
